A new clip from the heist thriller “Son of a Gun” has debuted, teasing us with a scene between Brenton Thwaites as a young fugitive and Alicia Vikander as his romantic interest.
The feature directorial debut of award-winning short film writer-director Julius Avery (“Jerrycan”), “Son of a Gun” centers on JR (Thwaites), a 19-year-old who is detained for a minor crime and locked up behind bars, where gives up what little freedom he has left to form an alliance with crime boss Brendan Lynch (Ewan McGregor). After assisting Lynch and his crew in a prison break, JR agrees to join the gang in a major heist, a decision that may put him in conflict with his new mentor.
Although the clip doesn’t give us much background on the identity of Vikander’s foreign character, it does give an idea of her rapport with JR, a young man that she evidently takes an affinity for in spite of what her demeanor towards him suggests. Also, if JR’s lack of grace in this clip proves anything, it’s that he still has a long way to go before he consider it an even playing field with his new colleagues of the Australian criminal underworld.
“Son of a Gun,” which premieres at the BFI London Film Festival this month, will open in Australian cinemas (via Entertainment One) on October 16. A North American release date, however, has yet to be announced. In the meantime, check out the new footage below.
